80 gallon with 90 watts of light..I wouldn't think they'd have any affect. Whats your heater set at?? whats your room temp at??

you also have alot of pumps. do you have glass tops? maybe take them off if you do. lets alot of heat out.
I'd try to find the source of the heat, elimate it, then allow tank to cool naturally overnight...

    good luck..

Well I originally thought is was the power heads because I don't have any glass on there. The heater is set at 78 and the room temp about 75-80? I took one of the power heads out and took the top off the tank with the lights out. Should i put the PH back in for circulation? and would 3 power heads + 1 more for the skimmer make that much heat? Man this is depressing after adding my fish in. Me and my wife went to Disney land and came back and the regal tang killed one of my clown's, and is picking on the other one. Is this normal for regal? I thought that they were nice?

    Thanks for your help!

I was just looking at the wattage on each power head and i think one of the power heads might be creating too much heat. One ins 23 watts and the other ones are around 8-12 watts. could this be the problem? because ive been letting the tank cool without lights for about a 30 mins and still the same temp 88.5.

    Thanks

    Hey Bud,

You NEED to get that temp DOWN! If you can monitor your evaporation or if you have a top-off system, you can add some fans. Evaporation is an amazing cooler. I have 350W of MH light that doesn't heat my tank a bit. Of course I lose ~3% of my water each day to evaporation. That's why I have a good top-off system.

Yeah I know!! Im worried... I took that 23 watt POS out and the temp seems to be cooling very slowly but its come down to 80.0 now so i think that would be the prob. With the evap you would tell that your water level would go down right? My water level hasent really moved but a little bit. I just added some cold drinking water to my skimmer outlet chamber. very little amount. Ill keep you guys posted! Wish me luck!

Thanks again I dont know what i would do with out ya guys!!

There are two temporary fixes. First Make ice cubes out of your RO/DI water and add them as soon as they are frozen. Second Get a small cooler and a good length of hose 25 feet is good. Hook up the hose to your return pump from your sump you won't use the regular one. buy a solid block of ice wrap the hose around the ice and put the end in your tank. This will cool your tank FAST so keep an eye on it. You might want to check the impellers on your power heads. If there is calcium build up they will run super hot. Hope that helps, get that temp down asap.

Did you happen to pull out the power heads to feel if one was creating any extra heat?
