Raven! Thank you Thank you! This has been driving me nuts!! I thought I had it all under control last week. My temps were really stabilizing 76.9 to 77.8. Then BAM wake up one morning 80.1! All day no change! night 79.8. Morning 80.1.:p I'm running through everything in my mind:rolleyes3 Where did these 3 degrees come from? I'm checking heaters, I'm topping off sump, I'm blaming children, I'm even starting to question wife...that didn't go very far.:dunce:

The whole time I'm happy as anything cause I'm emptying foam from my new skimmer............attached to a newly added Mag 3 Pump!

Here it is about 5:00 AM and I'm reading your post and realize the new pump is where the 2 to 3 degrees came from with my newly added skimmer! The jump was so quick and noticeable because overall the FOWLER is a fairly small volume system. There are so many things to keep track of keeping a column in my log for equipment changes will be a new one.

Also really points to the power of 3Reef!!!!!! Thanks again RAVEN!!!

Now I better apologize to everyone in the house and put about $50 in the quarter per swear word Jar we keep in the kitchen!:-[ I'll also throw something in to Reef Protectors.

My tank went up to 90F last summer during a heatwave. Thats with a chiller and everything lived. I guess corals could tolerate a little heat for a short period of time.

Heat! It's like Hells Kitchen in my tank. I don't run MH, but i just added a Rio 26HF and instantly my temp shot up to 85. I was blaming it on the HPS light i put on my sump and tried everything with that. I guess more flow more friction more heat at a expense of a fish's life(no animals were harmed in the upgrade!) we attempt to make our tanks better for them to live.

What is the number one Chiller suggested for heat control on a tank. Running a 90gal and would like to add one on for the investment at this time is something i don't want to loose due to heat issue.

Has anyone ever ran tests on adding different equipment to a tank and document that changes it has made to a tank. Such as i see a lot of documentation on when people add new lights they say how much their Electric bill has gone up. This i very helpful information and should be shared. Do we have any charts on what happened when certain equipment was added and the out come.

When I added my chiller my bill went up $45-50. I'm looking to up grade my chiller before the summer comes when its working nonstop. I don't want another nice bill to pay. Look into a chiller that will support more then a 90g, The less work that it does to cool down the tank, the easier it will be on your bill. I like the arctica titanium chillers.

if temp changes occur very slowly it won't harm or stress your tank inhabitants. Three degree change isn't that dramatic. I keep my tank at roughly 78 degrees everyday.

    Dador, glad I could help.
Joe, all I can say about electrical equipment is that the more watts they use the more heat they produce. Thats why I like to use energy efficient pumps (besides the lower electrical bill) like the Seio power heads-8watts and 620gph, and the Rio plus powerheads for my Remora skimmers. While they are not as reliable as the Mag drives they are much more energy efficient and don't produce as much heat. I also like the Quiet One pumps. Quiet one 3000=780gph and 45watts, the 4000=1050gph at 50watts. Compare that to a Mag 7, 700gph and I believe 70watts.
