I have my tank away from windows, air vents, anything that generates heat or coolness. But my room stays very warm and it keeps my tanks temp around 80 and It worries me a lot. I put ice cubes in zip lock bags and put them in there and it helps but i could put a entire ziplock bag FULL of ice cubes and it only lowers the temp like 1 degree.. Its really a lot of trouble b/c when im not home its in the back of my mind b/c idk if im gonna come home and see my fish dead b/c the temp spiked.. Is there any remedy that doesnt involve moving my tank out of my room?

Set up a room fan to create evaporational cooling by blowing across the top of your aquarium.
This will also aid in gas exchange!

Mine varies between 78-82 depending on the day, I haven't seen any ill effects.

it's not cheap, but chillers. I bought 2 smaller ones ( kinda a redundant thing) I LOVE them. they are not cheap, but I don't have to keep adding water to the tanks and don't have to deal with fans etc.

When my tank gets warm, they cool it down. when it gets cold the heaters kick in. I am pretty steady at 78 degrees

Should i put the mini fan right up to the tank and let it blow over the top of the tank or on the glass? or is there somthing different i should do?

can anyone give a website that sells chillers or a price check on how much a chiller would run?

I cant see any reason to buy a chiller if your temperature is around 80 degrees. They are expensive and you have only got a 20 gallon tank. If you were swinging to 83 or 84 and dropping into the 75 area in the dark you would have an issue. I feel that if you are stable at or around 80 degees your tank should be fine.

If you are still worried many places sell a small fan that you could mount just above your tank and run that fan on a timer from the hardware store only turning it on when your lights are on.

Stability is the key to this. You don't want large temp swings but a stable 80 is not a problem. What kind of light do you have?
