Tell me, why I shouldn't put GSP on the glass?

I have a beautiful, big, round piece of live rock that its almost hollow inside with an apparent mini cave system that my firefish goby calls home. On this beautiful rock, I have blue ridge coral, purple mushrooms and the infamous GSP that its looking beautiful, but its taking over the whole rock, moving the shrooms and starting to cover the blue ridge coral.
I'm very close from nuking the whole rock. Before I do, I want to get the shrooms and frag the blue ridge and lastly, put some of the GSP on the back glass where I think I'll be able to control it better (or so I think)....

So, tell me, boys and girls.... why is it a bad idea to do that?

Thanks for reading and for your feedback.

    - Magnus.

Read the last 10 or so pages of Corailline's tank thread or PM her about the issues she has had with it.

GSP just does not peel off tank walls, glass. It turns to mush when you try to remove it, and releases all kinds of nasty stuff back into the water. It grows quickly and the more you try to remove it the faster it grows.

The Reef Aquarium Volume I, states that it releases toxins into the water that adversely affect other corals. I was not a believer until some of my sps began to show STN. In large tanks running quality carbon and skimming it might be less toxic.

If I could do it over again I would not have put it on the wall. I would much rather have my nice black or purple back wall instead of the carpet of green, that is spreading to the sides of the tank, power heads, over flow gate rapidly.

it would be very beautiful if it would stay only on the back glass, but that stuff grows like weeds so maintenance would be impossible.

To Corailline, does GSP only release toxin when it is damaged? or does it use chemical warfare all the time?

huh.... I have it halfway up the back wall now... The last trim that I gave away I scraped off my overflow.. It wasn't too bad.. Yes I agree, it does grow like wild fire... I'll have to read up on the toxin.. Do you have a link?

It is said to release toxin constantly to inhibit the growth of other corals. Initially I was reluctant to be concerned regarding how much damage it could actually do. About 4 months ago Inwall mentioned something regarding it having a negative effect on sps, that peaked my interest, so I did some more research. Now I am living the problem.

It looses it's cool look after awhile. I have tried razor blades, kalk.....

Basically I am going to have to break down the tank to remove it.
