Currently running a 90gal aga 48x18x24. I am building a canopy which will be about 12" high with two front doors, convertible top and possible feed doors on the sides. I want to attach the TEK lighting to the convertible top which should place it about 8" from the water making it 32" from the bottom of my tank. Will this be ok or should I put the light on a pully system to get the light as close to the water as possible and then lift it up when i want to feed or get into the tank?

You wanna have T5's higher than 6" to prevent heating, cuz they do get hot and act as a heater. The higher you put these, the lower the intensity as these are better when the bulb is closer to the water. The illumination will spread off the tank at high placement.

first of all i wouldnt really go with the 8x54w, that is way to much light, the 6bulb is more than enough, and i have my lights only about 3-4" from my tank. so i wouldnt really go any higher than 6", and these light dont really produce alot of heat thats why people get them over mh
