How long have you had your tank running. The first month or so you are going to have normal algae growth spikes. First brown, then green. If red shows up you have a problem.

You are definitely going to need an answer from a more experienced reefer then cause I would hate to steer you wrong.

Is this green algae slimy and does it have bubbles trapped in it?

It appears to just be a new cycle which can start with any new tank regardless if you are using old equipment. The canister filter is not going to do much to help there other than provide additional water flow. It gets worse when you add the light because the algea is feading off of the light.
It just appears you are back to the drawing board and have to let the full cycle happen again. Luckly from my experience the cycle will go much quicker because you are using equipment you used before compared to non cured live rock.

thats an awful lot of watts of t5 over a 55gallon.i have half that much over my 55 and although my brains are happy, some of my mushrooms can barely handle that intence light.my bulbs all have individual reflectors and the 4 bulbs with reflectors just barely fit over the tank.your bulbs must have less than half an inch between each other.is your leather showing any signs of being burned?i had an algae bloom any time i ever added more light to a tank.if you have a good clean up crew you should be ok in time.

Sounds like your tank is cycling. But what are your water parameters-nitrates and phosphates? How long are you leaving your lights on? The lighting you have is fine for your tank, I dont think its too much. How many power heads do you have? Also once you add 30 or so snails that will help keep your glass clean.

But just be patient, let the tank cycle, make sure your nitrates and phosphates are low, dont feed too much and dont leave the lights on 12hrs a day.

why not put some phosphate remover in your canister filter
