Now for the next question for my new build.

I will have a 150 RR tanks and unknown sump size.

What is the appropriate turnover for a tank.

I am torn between running a magdrive 18 or 24 and am looking for input.

    Any Advice.

most of your turn over will be from powerheads not the sump pump.

i would try to find out your overflow gph, and match the pump to that.

if all else fails go with the bigger one and put a valve on it so you can adjust the flow accordingly

I would go with the 18, or something other than a magdrive if you need to go bigger. I know Bogie tried a mag drive, and I believe it was the 24, on his 180 and it was VERY VERY loud. You might want to try and send him a message about it.
The good turnover rate for a sump is around 5X the display tank size. So I think you might be trying to overdo it. If you go too fast, your not going to give the equipment in the sump (or the fuge itself if your doing a sump/fuge) the time to do it's job properly.

I second that. And there are some suggestions in Packleader's 200g thread toward the end.

Water from tank through sump is not turnover there all you want to do is about 4 masybe 5x' per Hr tops say 150 with 125 Gals real volume then you want to pass 500 to 600 GPH through the sump. Then you can drill the tank for internal circulation and or add power heads or wave makers thats where the turn over rate comes into play . Like with a 150 a Mag 1800 will be fine on my old 180 we ran about 900 GPH through the sump but inside I was pushing about 15,000 GPH around , Had to replace that with a 90 in a hurry I now have about 400 GPh or so then about 7,000GPH moving around inside the tank SPS loving it LPS are hanging on for dear life

tank/sump turnover: 5-10x/hr depending on drain line diameter, sump size
tank internal turnover: 35-100x/hr depending on the coral housed
external pumps would work better than submersibles
