Tank deteriorating.. What can I do?

Could be chemical warfare However having many Softies in my tank Ive noticed they go through periods of times where they look great then crap then great, However on the 2nd great they are bigger and nicer looking. Might be a growth spurts if youve seen any shedding of the leathers.

 

Could that have been caused because of the hit? Mom says that it has been like that since it fell. How long are these periods?

 

What about your lighting?

 

Havent changed them in about 6 months so i doubt thats the problem...

What's your temperature? Mine has been tuff to dial in because of swings between warm and cold weather.

Is the leather isolated on one rock?

The toxins that they secrete are always present unless mechically removed by carbon. I have found once I removed my leather corals I saw a huge improvement in the healthy of the other corals.

I think if you look around you will find similar documented experiences with leathers and other corals and especially stoney corals.

 

Kind of. Although that rock is impossible to remove.. ( and i dont really want to remove the toadstool since it is one of my favorites).

I am running carbon so i doubt thats the problem.. Ill put some more carbon if needed.

 

couple of things strike me about these images

1) its not all bad in there Elweshomayor - many of the corals look contented to me
2) the water surface has a film of protiens on it - its hardly moving
3) the angle of the outlet of the maxi jet has changed it was pointing more outwards and upwards in 1st image when the kenya looked happier
4) You have a Clam in there with softies, if your not doing water changes are you supplementing anything - as your parameters for Ca DKH etc may have dropped a lot over the months you have been away

If it where mine
1) I would run additional carbon
2) get the CA, ALK, MG levels tested and rectify ( slowly)
3) and increase water movement especially across the water surface

I have a HOB filter, doenst that create enough water tension?

um, not sure if the tip might change but thats just a clam shell... the actual clam died a long time ago. Ive been moving the maxi jet around so i think i have it close to what it was on the first picture. I have been wanting to buy another power head but im kinda broke lol.. Im working my way around so that my parents buy some stuff for me on friday or saturday.. ill add those to the list.
