The only live stock in the tank are a few blue leg hermit crabs. No fish or corals yet.

I use Reef Crystals. I know this has added Cal and Mag...could this be the issue?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Although the dates are still good the solution may not be, only way to tell is against another kit.

What salt are you using and what water source? Test both the water source prior to mixing the salt and the water after you mix the salt.

Inhabitants will be fine until you get figured out. Just do not make any big adjustments until you know for sure.

for pretty good results in calcium for corals keep salinity at 1.026. as for the excess calcium have you dosed anything? if salinity is at 1.026 then calcium i think should be 440-460 range.

well im thinking of something but I'm not sure I'm correct when I say it... do you top off with freshwater? (preferably ro/di water) because im thinking that sometimes when you dont top off salinity can go like from 1.022 to 1.030 and maybe raise parameters to undesireable levels? sorry if I'm wrong; more of a thought if anything
