my recent addition came down with ick. my natural reaction was to use an ick removal liquid meant for marine fish. after some research, I realize that this is in reef safe and it will attach itself for rock and silicone within the tank. I also realize that this is an neveriller and I may no longer be able to place corals in this tank. I only use 1 teaspoon in my 20 gallon tank which is half of the recommended dose. is this tank bounds to be a fish only tank now?

I am sure overtime anything harmful to Corals in the medication would be removed with carbon, if you don't use carbon maybe you should once you know the ich is no longer an issue.

Just standard activated carbon? Would a new filter for a hob filter be sufficient or will i need an additional carbon source? Water changes?

Its not a copper product, just to clarify. I removed the fish and will treat him outside of the tank now.

Actually, it is a copper product - malachite is copper carbonate.

A hob filter with a bag of activated carbon should do the trick. There's also chemical products that claim to remove copper and other heavy metals (seachem Prime, etc.), though I have no idea how effective they are, as I've never used them for that purpose.

Malachite is different from malachite green. The latterr doesn't contain copper.

No worries. I had to do the same. I guess I will start with carbon and a water changed see if the mushroom improves.

    From the producers:

    "Dear Kevin,

Yes, activated carbon will work, as well as Amquel. I have also passed this on to Dr.Rofen, our consultant. He will get back to you also. By the way,. Rid Ich dissipates after 24 hours.

    Zoe"

Lost the one clown with ich, but everything in the tank seems to be doing fine besides the 4 mushrooms I have. Hard to tell if they will pull through or not. They still have their color, they are just closed up. All of the inverts seem to be fine, surprisingly. A few more hours and the stuff should be "dissipated", according to the company.

I did a partial water change and all of my parameters checked out fine. I will probably do another water change midweek and towards the end of the weekend and then let the tank be for several few weeks.

Lesson to learn: Don't use Rid Ich in a reef tank; quarantine and treat.
