They say Petco often has a sale that makes a 40breeder- just the tank- $40

I'm guessing your doing 20% water changes weekly cause of the bio load on tank or maybe that's how your supplementing your corals with the supplements in the salt. If your buying water from a store with the premix salt then yea it gets pricey. If you don't already, you should install a ro/di system where you live & make your own salt water.

Petco has a dollar per gallon sale that should be coming up, so a 40B would be $40. I would wait for that ;)

Yeah I can afford the tank itself but I can't afford the sump to put the equipment in plus my light isn't big enough, at least I don't think it is.

I was doing 20% water changes weekly because of nitrates even though I only had 2 fish, a shrimp, and a clean up crew. unfortunantly one of my fish succumbed to a mystery disease so my bioload is even lower. I've been trying to make my nitrates more stable, any tips would be appreciated even though this is a tank thread. and i cant get an RO/DI system right now so that a no go.

For your water changes have you tried siphoning your sand at all?
How about using a turkey baster to blow your rocks off?
It's always cheaper to fix what you have vs starting over.

Yeah, I have coral rubble and every time I do a water change suck all the crap out of the substrate. I also blow gunk off the rocks on occasion(twice a week or so). Yeah... but I loath the dimentions on my tank... I'm sort of contemplating switching to a 20 long with a DIY right now cause that seems plausable and the dimensions are better.

Another option is to keep an eye out on Craigslist and see if you can get someone's used tank. Sometimes there's some sweet deals out there!
