when i have aggression like this i will take the aggressor out of the tank for say a week to a month depending on the aggression amount. then switch the rocks around a bit then reintroduce him. has worked every time ive done it so far.

I had to do that with the Blueline Trigger, put him in a timeout tank when he got out of hand. He behaves now, for a Blueline, but I had to take him out 6 or 7 times if I recall. He was easy to catch because he can't resist raw seafood and was not too difficult to net. A Purple Tang would be much more difficult to catch, especially multiple times.

On another note, are you sure that they are getting fed enough? With my fish, if I notice them getting aggressive, I see that as a sign that I need to increase the feeding.

I agree with all statements made...in adition you may try keeping 2 clips of nori in the tank and just keep putting nori on them this may help.I've found with my trio (purple, yellow, scopas) if I do this I almost never see an argument and my tank is smaller(don't call the tang police its temporary)

I feed formula 1 and 2 twice a day but in small amounts that gets consumed quickly. I add sheets of algae about once a week. Maybe I should add something else to the diet. I think however, a time out is in order for the purple tang.

How long could I get away with placing the purple tang in a 29 gallon tank? Hes about 2.5 inches long. I realise this tank is small but its what I got at the moment.

My first Tang in the tank was my chevron tang, I then introduced a smaller purple tang and my chevron tang let the purple tang know whos tank this was and then I introduced my convict tang, which my purple tang bullied for about a week but now they all swim together and our best of friends its awesome. hope it all works out.......

wow that is a bit of a tongue twister I wrote.......lol

My suggestion is to feed more dried seaweed sheets. So say you have a 6x6 inch sheet, put it in quarters and feed two of those in the morning, and 2 in the evening. Try doing this at least 4 times a week. Soak it HUFA's and Vitamin C. ( I personally feed mine that way every day) Then the flakes and frozen are additional to it every few days.) I feed a lot and have some fat happy tangs along with very little aggression.

If that doesn't work. Id QT the purple. for like a week. and do some reaquascaping. Even if you have to take rock out to catch him/her. Its a good time then to redo your scaping.
