We had a guy come in to the LFS i work at and didn't know why all his stuff kept dieing. After about a week of trying to figure things out we had him bring in a box of his salt. Turns out petco sold him aquarium salt instead of marine salt mix.

In your gf's defense...there are some saline waters found withing the US. Some people also don't understand how salt water doesn't make it up stream.

It is sad though to think how many clowns died as a result of this Nemo Movie. Just so ignorant and these are living creatures that need their proper environment... anyway, just had to vent.:thinking2

When I worked part time at an LFS, a woman came in and was interested in a dogfaced puffer. She asked if it would bother her other fish. I asked her what kind of fish she had and she replied that it was an Oscar. I told her that the puffer wouldn't live long enough to bother her fish. What's worse is that we had signs over all of the tanks indicating which were salt and which were fresh water fish. D'OH.

:-/alittle bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing, but in some of these cases. what would no knowledge be.. jeeze it's amazing how people can be so unwilling to learn about something before they make a purchase.

Went to my lfs today and he re-arranged his tanks... has a lot of freshwater but some marine in the back and he told me too that a lot of people walk in and want to buy a clown for the fw... For me personally this hobby involved a h... more than just having a tank with pretty fish but it is amazing how many people just want one and have NO idea what they are doing. Granted if you have a lot of $$$ and can afford to have the lfs take care of your tank, ok.... but what fun is that, huh?! That's just to impress people but then again, that's the way a lot of people are...
