    Well I've been thinking...

When I go to college what's going to happen to my tanks??
I decided to take my 29G with me. At least..

So I was wondering on how to move things? Coral? Fish? Anemone?

    It's a 3.5+hr drive more or less..

When I place everything back am I risking the anemone to move?

I guess the most important question is... How would I go by taking my tank?

( I might just rent an apartment so I can take my 150G with me.

How close to college will you be?

    Could you make multiple trips?

Would be best to put your fish/corals in QT until the tank is fully setup with no issues, then you could bring them. Otherwise, 5 gallon buckets with aerators and a heater.

Keep you rock underwater the entire time...well as best you can. This will help prevent a full cycle. Either way, you will have a mini-cycle most likely.

Get a bunch of buckets, and move everything in them.

Have a 40G container... Could I place everything there? Or some of it?

I don't have Qt for all my fish... Specially my tangs..
I could probably get my uncle and my roommate help me take things...
Will they be ok in a container for the time I get everything set up?
My 29g I can probably have ready as soon as I get there but my 150 might take a while lol

I have read where a lot of families are buying forclosures near their kids colleges. They can then rent out a few rooms that cover most or all the mortgage. far cheaper than room and board on campus or the high cost of rent charged to students by landlords specializing in short term student rentals that typically cost you 12 months rent even though many move out at the end of the school year.

To move the tank plan on bagging everything as if you were buying it from the LFS. store as much of the water as you can for putting back in the tank. leave an inch or so of water in the tank with the sand for the move. wrap the rock with newspaper or if possible in the bucket with the tank water in it.

A 40G is even better than buckets lol, as long as it's a very strong container. Just throw in a heater + air stone, and make sure the rock won't be tumbling around; use some egg crate to keep the fish and anything else that might get crushed separate from the rock. You can use an inverter on a cigarette lighter to power them.

Good luck. I've used the buckets method before, just make sure to keep them heated properly.

Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't imagine having a tank at school. I waited until I was finished to set up my first tank. You have to deal with moving, time requirements, other people, other drunk people, holidays, summers etc. The 29 wouldn't be too bad, but the 150? IMO, that's too big of a hassle to move, but I guess it's up to the individual.

This is a good point. All it takes is one drunk ****** to say "hey these fish look thirsty, haha, they need some beer" and you have 150 gallons of wasted money and time.

I would do the 29 gallon only, and leave the 150 at home.

Yeah I agree with above posters. Unless you have your own room and can lock it, I would'nt risk anything to expensive IMO...

Also, where are you going to school?
