So I am doing a complete switch over of my tank, I just purchased a 30 gallon nano type aquarium that im modding.
New tank is 24inches long by 13 inches wide by 18 inches tall. Using 4 geissman t5 bulbs, 65g coralife protein skimmer, and a custom 5 step filtration i am building.

I am transfering my reef tank 120g to this 30g, i have about 20 types of coral, my two clowns(domino clown and black misbar) and pederson shrimp, blood shrimp, and harlequin shrimp. That will be everything in the small tank. plus snails and crabs

In my 120g, I am getting rid of my two tangs, trading them in while I still can before theyre too big. I am going to convert that to a fowlr. I want a trigger tank.

1). My question is will 4 different triggers and a lionfish be ok in one tank.
2). If im using already cured rock from my dt tank, and 75% from my dt, and new sand for the 30 gallon what kind of cycle should i expect, and how fast can i add all the coral to the tank.
3). How much LR and lighting will i need for a 120g 4x2x2 fowlr.
currently have over 200 lbs of lr, using 45lbs of that for the fish only

    Hi,

    1) 4 triggers in a 120g tank may be too much. Because of their adult size, I'd be concerned about their aggression once they mature. Even if that doesn't become an issue, you might have trouble getting enough food to the lion as they tend to be slower and less aggressive than triggers. However, others may have a different opinion, here. That's just my thoughts.

    2) I helped a friend do the very same thing several months ago- using new sterile sand and aged water and live rock from his old tank, we moved everything the same day. He has never had any problems. We did, however, use a bucket to keep the rock fully submerged during transit.

    Hope this helps.

if you have a monsterous filter 4 triggers and a lion can be done, but i dont get why you would get rid of your tangs they are some of the most popular fowlr fish. i would keep them then add like 2 triggers and a dwarf lion. but make sure all triggers are added at the same time along with the lion to acoid aggression. also you should do a moray like a snowflake. great predator tank eels

Some triggers develop tendencies to nip at the fins or a lion.

I like the tangs but they now seem like every other fish to me now. I want to explore more species. I love the uniqueness of the triggers and lions and thinking bout a puffer instead. Do 2 triggers a lion and a puffer w eel. Or 2 triggers and a lion with a bunch of domino damsels

if you do the triggers be prepared to upgrade in a few years as when they reach full size(18 in. min) they are aggressive and youll never want to stick your hand in the tank lol

I've seen in person and read about a multitude of people that have trained thier triggers to hand feed. They are hand in the tank dangerous as you train them to be.
