    yeah it seems like that is all i can do. i just wanted to make sure there wasn't any thing more i can do. thanks.

    Hydrometers can be completely out, I would invest in a refractometer if you can or get your hydrometer calibrated against one at your LFS or with a friend if they have one. Salinity is one of the most important tests you can do with a reef tank so it's best to make sure it's right.

    non of my friends have saltwater aquariums, but i will try to get this done at the LFS. would the wrong salinity take two weeks to show ill effects?

    Before getting your hydrometer calibrated make sure it is well rinsed with freshwater and I would make sure it is wel rinsed after use with salt water. The salt residue can crystallize on the swing arm and cause it to become more buoyant, which will give you a false reading.

    peredhil had a good idea with another clown. maybe its just depressed that its lost its mate. exhibiting the odd swimming behaviour hoping to attract another. just a thought.

    i rinse my refractometer with vinegar to get it clean.

    well tomorrow i will clean my hydrometer and check salinity. i plan on getting another clown, but i want to wait awhile to make sure nothing is wrong my tank.
