I just noticed, Netherlands. Is English your native tongue? It's very easy to read.

Yes its a little riskey. The Sugar removes a lot of the Oxygen in the water which in rtetun will kill your live stock, that's where a good Protien skimmer comes into play. I'm doing low dosage and will only be doing 1/2 tspoon every other day...

the only vodka in my house gets mixed with OJ not saltwater!

Have you thought about just building a de-nitrification coil? they work really well and no negatives that are known

Hey! They definitely work, however their performance is very poor when compared to ethanol/bacteria or sulfur/bacteria denitrification methods.

A skimmer does little to oxygenate your water. You need to be running airstones when doing this.
As some others have said, I would look to what is actually causing this and take care of that; not dosing something to patch the problem. In the world of algae, cyano can be one of the easier ones to beat if you take care of certain issues correctly. I feel dosing sugar is a horrible mistake

I view them more of a long term solution vs a quick fix. I still refuse to give my clowns any grey goose their already mean enough

Mistake? It's being used overseas on a regular base. The understanding of what sugar does is obvious. Plus if you keep the dosage within reason you should be fine. As for air,,, every one, and I mean everyone that I have talked to has done this never added a air stone to the tank just let the skimmer oxygenate the water. If you have a good skimmer the O2 should be sufficient.

Also my Nitrate levels where never really high, about 5.0 so I did not do this to lower the nitrates. I did have a little Cyano that was visible but nothing major. This was more of a test to see what I would get from this.

Oh... My friend! I would be very careful if I were you! As I've mentioned I've started my "nitrate-battle" using ethanol ("vodka") method. It worked, however, just 2 days after last ethanol dose nitrates went up very rapidly! Once you start, you should not stop, but decrease the dosage very slowly! Now, I'm running sulfur-based denitrator!

Best 150$ ever spent on equipment!!! I observe decreasing levels of nitrates from day to day! Life is good! :)
