I am not sure the 200 is going to fit in a 20 long, if it does fit it's going to be extremely tight. I have a 200 and put it in my acrylic sump with no trim around the top that is 14" wide I think and it's still pretty tight with the pump and plumbing in there. Remember on the 20 gallon tank you're going to have trim and I'm not sure that 12" is the inside dimensions of the tank.

I would go with the 160 and be safe that it's going to fit in your sump unless you get a chance to try it out yourself before buying. It will probably also be easier to maintain if you have a little bit of extra room for removing the pump occasionally for cleaning etc. You're only putting it on a 55 so it's plenty oversized (a good thing).

Would you suggest carefully choosing the proper flow rate or could I place a ball valve on that one to restrict the flow? And the pump would go from the skimmer section to the fuge right?
