i believe he was only asking if anyone else had success with sumpless sps tanks, but i agree with most people here, SPS are tough corals to keep and you will probably need a Calcium Reactor, expensive as heck lights and multitudes of filtration for success in a 75gal. many times SPS tank owners have to test so many times that Pinpoint testers that they pay themselves off in short time but are also very costly to buy. then you have to have good flow....... in my opinion a mixed tank or softie with some LPS looks the coolest but it dpends on your opinion and of course, your budget and the amount of effort you are willing to put in.

1st i'll say don't do it.but if you are going to anyway.put a plenum in the sand bed and do it right.also.sea squirts and sponge may help alot with filtering.to many hermits will eat the squirts so idk if they will make it without a sump to live in.a masive hob skimmer,or 2.prizm makes a skimmer rated for the big tanks but its loud and without a sump you will have to adjust it every day.or get 2 high quality skimmers, maybe remora.even with over skimming and a big filter with like 2 cups of carbon replaced monthly you are still going to need an extra large cleaning crew.if their is a person capable of setting up the tank you want,it is eric bornman.it wont be hard to find a forum he's in somewhere.he's a famous aquarist.he runs tanks with seasquirts and sponges with no skimmer, but i think he puts that stuff in a sump.

Thanks for all these feedback. I have not decided yet. Order my tank, but still debating on skimmer ( HOB or insump ). If I go with sump, I'll go with lifereef overflow box and diy sump. At this point, I gotten number of feedbacks with successful sumpless tank. Although not much on sps sumpless.

If you just ordered your tank get it drilled instead of a HOB OF. Even if you don't go with a sump you can just cap off the holes. It will make it a lot easier if it is drilled in the long run.
