I be setting up 75 gallon sps tank. Want to do sumpless tank because I don't want to deal with any the cost, noise, leaking issues with overflow and sump. Will be using two Koralia 3 powerheads and HOB skimmer along with Live Rocks for flow and filtration. For ATO, I will be using Aqualifter on a timer to perform daily auto top-off. Sensor ATO didn't work for me in the past when the sensors malfunction. Anyone running successful sumpless setup?

Sps's demand prestine and stable water conditions. By adding a sump you are adding water volume that helps disapate problem plus hide all the awful equipment and cords that hang in the tank and look gaudy.

I havent had any luck with sps without sump and a closed loop system.I have korlias3 but they are on timers and dont run all the time. they are to strong in a 75 to run all the time.

stranger things have happened steve888, but imop a sps tank will not thrive without a sump.

    and judge for yourself.
having a 75 gallon sps dominated reef system. they are demanding creatures. way to much to get into for now, and are expensive, by the time you get done messin around, you could by a house. do it right the first time.

not knowing your background, sps are not for beginners.

most people don't concidder sps untill they already have very stable water perrimeters.it will be way harder to keep them without a sump.sorry.

Hey! Chap! I don't have sump. I've got 75 gal like you. However, I use 2 external canister filters: Eheim 2227 wet/dry and Eheim 2213 for phosphate/silica removal. So far, so good... I'm planning to have some SPS. We shall see! What filtration do you use...?!

Currently I have 20 gallon sumpless sps tank for about 8 months. My sps are good in the tank. Using Remora with MJ1200 and Koralia one with Kent Marine Nano A and B for two part dosing. No carbon or Phosphate media for now, but on the 75g, I pan to use power filter and add carbon media in it. For surface skimming once powerhead will be near surace area.

There is not much room in a 20g for very many coral. Now when you step up to a bigger tank, you probably won't be able to keep water parameters stable enough with dosing. If you do it will wear you out and you'll get tired of messing with it all the time. Takes more equipment to keep larger water volumes up to sps standards.
Just like reef guru said "stranger things have happened" You might keep them alive for a short while
Sounds like you were set at going with out a sump in the first place. I kind a wondered why you even asked the question or concern to begin with..:-/

otty, i was thinking the same thing, especially on larger systems. sounded like a loaded question.
