So i just setup a sump under my 46 gallon tank. My problem is the pump is sending water through the return faster than it is getting from the overflow to the sump. I know this setup work, as it is used and has been working for a while now. am I just making some obvious mistake that I don't see?

    Thanks

    Adrian

Just install a ball value from the return and adjust it

The valve needs to go on the output of the pump. If you put it on the input you will ruin the pump.

cool. I will give that a shot. Crappy thing is I now have to re-plumb it. It is 1/2" tube now, so I will have to do PVC I guess.

i have tubing on mine, but i used the valve from home depot with about a 4" piece of pvc glued in each end of the valve. then slide the tube over the pvc and secured with stainless steel hose clamps.

Yeah, I will get it done. i do irrigation so it should not be hard to get a compression ball valve at our supply house. for now I just have a pair of vice grips squeezing the pipe.
