I am having some sump issues.. It is a homemade sump that I purchased used. I am having a problem with micro bubbles and "bubbling" sound.. Not little bubbling but a "blump" sound every few seconds or so... I have attempted to raise and lower the pipe ends where they enter the "bubble trap box" with no success.. I have added rock rubble to the bottom of the bubble trap box (started with nothing in the bottom) and didnt help. Not sure if I need the rock rubble or not??? Or should there be something else in the box or just empty??

Notice in the sketch where the bubble box is the water level in the entire sump (other than the refugium area) is impacted by evaporation due to the wall separator layout.. I had thought about putting a wall to force water over the top to the baffle area that would add another baffle and maintain the water level in the area where the skimmer and bubble box are. Is this a good idea? I had also thought about adding another baffle in the space between the current baffle to help reduce micro bubbles..

This sketch may be confusing as I drew it sitting here at the office off of memory... Any questions on whats what just ask.... I tried to label it clearly.

The words are hard to read.. the bottom left says Rock Rubble (bottom bubble box).. If there are any other words hard to make out just let me know..

Be sure the pipes that dump the water into the sump are above the water level. The "blump" is probably air escaping.

Maybe drilling a hole in the overflow and putting a small house in so air can escape to prevent the gurgling?

I have the pipes ~1.5" below the water level.. They should be above the water level and not under it?

I would add more space for rock.

Just to know, I have about 6 pounds live rock in the refugium area. the rock in the bubble box is about a pound or so and not sure why I was told to add it there..

Aye. Slightly above with the top of the pipe would help eliminate the 'blump.'
You can get away with them under the water line with low flow - anything higher will get noisy.
