Can a sump be to small? I know the bigger the better.

Sure it can. What size is it? What hardware do you have in it? Does it hold all your water from your overflow when the pump is off?

if it were me I would go a little bigger possibly to a 40 breeder just for the added room nd water volume. I am using a 30 long on my 75 gallon and it is almost to small for my skimmer and equipment, you could even do a 55 gallon with no real problems. as far as being to small the 30 works just make sure you compinsate for the water that has to flow back into the sump if the power coes out.

    just food for thought ;D

A sump thats too small can not handle the run off from the . Anything above that and it's all preference on what your sump or setup calls for.... filtration, pumps, refug....

I agree. My sump is from a 40gal breeder tank and it's connected to my 90gal

Ah a 125. I like what these guys are saying about a 40 breeder. Something like that with a good footprint would be nice as you will probably be adding a lot to it. I know I would with a tank like that. I want to see it when you are done!

Gonna be a while until I am done, drawing the plans for my stand now. Will get pics up soon when I have something worth showing. And when iI figure out howto to post them. I'm gonna look at 40b dimensions sounds promising. Petco needs to have a dollar per gallon sale soon!

Go with the 40b, has room to divide and maintain most of your equipment, skimmer, pump and cheto.

Going with a 40 breeder was going to build myself but can't find a good price on one that makes it worth DIY. but, I have found someone to do an acrylic for a very reasonable price. I plan on having a skimmer section on one end, the return in the middle seperated by baffles, and a refugium on the other end. Do i have to have a space for bio balls, should I run it through a filter sock coming in? Just not sure on exactly what makes the best sump design. Any direction on this would be great thanks!! Love pictures too
