Oh...and BTW...the definition of "Live Rock" is very losely interpreted there. Dead Coral skeletons, sand....etc may be considered "live rock".

Yes, Coral Fish Hawaii has the largest selection on the island and next LFS would be The Pet Depot which has fish arrivals every other friday.

As for Modern Pet center, they're temporarily closed at the moment due to relocating. However they have a site you should check out Aquarium Fish Hawaii - Tropical saltwater fish and tropical freshwater fish and aquarium supplies - Honolulu, Hawaii and if you see anything you like listed on the site, you can contact them and arrange to meet up with you.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your trip, aloha!

    Good idea.

I don't plan on collecting myself am buying from an LFS and will have/show receipts.
I am staying at alternative lodging (Hosteling International's Waikiki location 2 blocks from the beach $25/night for a bed or $58 for a private room, I'll be in a private room).
I am not a diver yet but hope to get certified before I go.

IMO best price on seafood and the best place for it is Nico's Restaurant
Diving is not crucial...snorkeling is great! IMO don't waste your time wtih the usual tourist trip to Hanauma bay....go straight to Shark's Cove (North Shore). In knee deep water you will see more and have a fraction of the brain damage from tourist overload...but just past Hanauma is one of the most gorgeous places on earth...where my wife and I got married...Makapu'u point.....

If you do get certified as a diver, go to Surf N Sea in Haleiwa, ask for "Scuba Drew" and take a tour of Shark's Cove. The man knows the spot like the back of his hand! While you are there, walk behind the fire station at Sharks Cove and enjoy "Crazy woman's" Japenese garden that she has created with a pair of scissors and tie wraps! She is a homeless woman that lives there at shark's cove that has turned this area into an amzaing garden! Wife and I even took wedding pics in her garden!
While on the north shore, eat a burger at Kua Aina and get a piece of chocolate haupia pie from Ted's Bakery..Da bomb! Oh...and go to the North Shore during the week and early! It gets nuts on the weekend!

    Aloha, and enjoy!

Yes the pet depot was on the list as well, thanks for the tips.

I'm sure I will enjoy it.
I'll be getting a 3 day Go Oahu card ,which won't be used consecutively, and a 4 day visitors bus pass to get around with a possible moped rental or two for more remote places (since I've read parking is a bear and paying for it as well). I plan on doing some touristy stuff as well as just relaxing and having fun @ the beach and seeking out some places the locals enjoy and finding any interesting deaf events for my friend to go to as well (since she's deaf).
    Aloha to you too ;D

Thanks! That's the other kind of info I need where to go off the beaten path since 3 days of tourist stuff is enough for me, the other 5 days i want to see what most tourists don't and of course enjoy the ocean & beach.

Found this info for visiting Oahu
it also give specific instructions for a nice hike to Manoa Falls and some nice vantage points to see the ocean across the jungle canopy.
    Snorkelling
    Queens Surf Beach
Awesome safe snorkelling right off the beach. Heaps of colourful fish. I even saw a morey eel. If you swim out to the end of The Wall or (especially) around the end of the rock wall at the other end of Queens Surf Beach, you will be rewarded by some massive fish. You might even find the odd ring or coins in the shallows that have been lost by frolicking tourists!
    Shark's Cove (May to October)
Catch the Around Island Bus (No. 52) and get off at Pupukea Beach Park. Safe, easy entry. Absolutely teeming with fish. Nearby change rooms. Then grab an 'ahi (tuna steak) sandwich at Shark's Cove Grill (little white trailer next to Foodland) opposite. Yummy!
Tip: I didn't bother to go to Hanauma Bay as it was out of the way and apparently has been loved to death by over a million visitors a year trampling on the coral.
    Turtle Bay
Haven' snorkeled there, but apparently it's great. It's at the end of the No. 52, and the start of the No. 55.

Sunset at the Beach festival (not August)
Every Saturday and Sunday, except in August, the Mayor throws a beach party. Queen's Surf Beach. Hawaiian bands perform from 4pm to sunset, then when darkness falls, a huge screen is set-up to watch a feature movie! Tables and chairs are set up. Food stalls galore, with nothing over $US6!
    Free concerts (not August)
Sunday 2 to 3pm, the Royal Hawaiian Band, at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand.
Friday 5.30 to 6.30pm, different Hawaiian groups each week, at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand.
    Kapiolani Park and Beach Park
Gorgeous, well manicured place for relaxing. On weekends, the locals relax, swim, and grill on the barbeque.

    Lunch/Snacks

Fatty's Chinese Kitchen is a hole in the wall at Kuhio and Duke's Lane. Very popular with locals.
Aloha Sushi is in a few different locations. Try the Musubi (see Local Delicacies).
For a cheap lunch, try any of the vendors at the Food Court at the International Market Place, or at Ala Moana Center.
Rainbow Drive-In has it all, and cheap.
Diamond Head Market and Grill, a bit out of the way, but the grilled 'ahi sandwich is a taste sensation.
Shark's Cove Grill on North Shore has an awesome 'ahi sandwich.

    Dinner

Keep an eye out for specials. Some restaurants have a seated before 6 special. Cut out coupons from the Tourist magazines.
For a very cheap dinner, try any of the vendors at the Food Court at the International Market Place.
Also try the Seaside Bar & Grill (not close to the seaside!) at Kuhio and Seaside. Early bird specials (before 7pm) are sensational (New York Steak - $US9.95). Sunset Dinner Special (4pm to 10pm) $11.95 for 2 items with sides (e.g.: Island Mahi Mahi and Jumbo Fried Shrimp with Roasted Garlic Herb Potatoes, Corn on the Cob, Garlic Bread & Salad!!).

Hope the info still holds true.
