Just put in my new T5's and was enjoying the new life in the tank, just to find a massive diatom bloom when i got home. I know they will be gone soon, but jeez i wish somone would invent a diatom nuke.

I agree I have a new tank and it's got the cycle brown going but the coral banded shrimp and lawnmower blenny seem to be helping to get rid of it.

This is part of the reason I do not run lights when my tank is cycling.;)

I'm exactly the opposite, there. lol... I run my lights 14 - 16 hours per day during the cycle. I want the algae to bloom and flourish so it can feed on the silicates, nitrates, etc. I then wait for all the algae to vanish before I start stocking. :)

Different strokes for different folks.lol;) I use a Phosphate adsorbing resin (Phos Zorb) to remove the silicates. I did this as an experiment on my last tank and have to say I have never had a cleaner tank from the startup till maturity.;) I hate filthy algae and diatoms.:angry::angry:
