    Hey guys,

So tax return day is not to far away, i will be upgrading to a 125 gallon tank.

For the time being i have a 40g Breeder. Rather than make 2 stands i figured i would build one for the 125 Gallon now, and perch the 40 breeder on it for the short time being.

I have such a fear of the metal stand its on now collapsing and the water going through the floor of the second floor its on currently, so this is a must do.

Here is an idea i drew out based off plans ive sen on here with the addition of some youtube videos

Im using 4x4 as the legs being paranoid. Bought all the lumber last night so we can start first cuts at 10AM sharp

125g with rock/sand/decent sump, water and equipment plus stand is easily 1000 - 1300 lbs. since its going on 2nd floor, think your floor will hold that?

Idk, I would assume that the people who built the house would account for things like that(heavy weight loads)

But I have been thinking about the exact thing too brother. But people who have basements keep theirs in a main level and have no problems . So idk if I should drink the kool aid and proceed or not

Had to run to home depot and grab a couple more 2x4's but heres today progress

More notably, throughout the day i have been more and more concerned about the structural integrity of the floor on the upstairs where the 125 gallon would be held. Im wondering if its a bad idea. And if im limited to a 40 Breeder regarding weight.

through research, each room generally holds 3000 lbs. Between the bed, dresser, people, other furniture. + a 1400 lb tank and stand...I would hope someone in the field of construction can tell me otherwise

Do you know which way the joists run? If the joists run the same direction that your tank is going to run then it might be too much weight for the joist to support. If they run the opposite way of the tank then you should be fine as the weight would be distributed over multiple joists.

Unfortunately idk which way they run. So i changed it up a little on the fly.

After i finished the 75" stand, I ended up downsizing it to 48 1/2 ". Not worth the risk

This was the 6 ft stand frame.

Then we cut it down a bit and added some more reinforcements. For the 40 breeder

No more projects for a while...lol And i will definitely buy a stand for the 125 when i get a new place with actual space. If im gonna spend the money, im going to do it right

So your done with upgrade?? Already put old tank back? You honestly would be fine with that much weight if you put perpendicular to floor Joyce. Most of the time floor Joyce will be perpendicular to your roofs ridge. My buddy had a 90 gal reef on 2nd floor for 4 years with no issues than he moved.
