starburst polyp??

    Hello all!! new to the site and to the hobbyu,ok so i added a starburst polyp about 2 months ago and it began spreading like crazy, in then last two weeks i noticed this purple mat spreading across my sand , looks and grows like the starburst polyps, just wondering if it is star.jpg

    oh just to add the the frag i put in is about a foot above thge sand where the purple mat as grownig

    Cyanobacteria, increase flow and do a water change.

    cyno bacteria...you can dose the tank with red slime remover (an antibiotic) or suck what you can out and make sure ur water params are where they should be

    ok so its an algae?? what about what growing around the starburst polyp? is that not the mat spreading??

    That is commonly called Green Star Polyps.

    The purple mat is cyanobacteria as others have posted. I would sure try to increase flow to that area and monitor nitrates and phosphates as the first step for decreasing the growth of the cyano. You need to fix the primary source for the development of cyanobacteria other wise it will pop back up.
