I think what we are going to do is stain the stand out on the deck since its supposed to be 80 degrees and sunny all weekend (what luck right?). We got a 30g tub that we are going to use for a few days. Are all brands of tubs/trashcans are reef safe? Its just like a standard tub. The brand is Great Solutions. Here is a link to it on home depots website 30-Gallon Tote-2030-0106 at The Home Depot
We rinsed it out and everything and we are making the RO/DI now.

It looks like it will be fine. Check the bottom of the container there should be a marking on it that says what kind of plastic its made from.If it says HDPE 2 in a triangle or has a 2 inside two arrows it should be fine.

It doesnt seem to have that. It has the triangle recycle symbol (made of 3 arrows) you think that will be okay? The label says weather resistant and the water seems to bead up on it when it gets wet.

I believe that means it is made from recycled materials. Not sure if it is safe but the water beading really doesn't make it unsafe.;)

Out of curiosity, do you know what it is about the rubber/plastic that would make it unsafe (i.e. a chemical, leaching, etc)? Lol I'm the type of person that must know everything. If it is leaching, would a few days be that terrible? I could even do wc's..

On another note, what ratio of tank water to new saltwater do you recommend for this situation? I was thinking 50/50...

Beware if the container says made in China as they do not mark there containers. The acceptable "safe" containers should be marked #2 HDPE High density polyethylene,#4 LDPE low density polyethylene, and #5 polypropolene.Others may leach BPA. Bisphenol A is a xenoestrogen, a known endocrine disruptor, meaning it disturbs the hormonal messaging in our bodies. Synthetic xenoestrogens are linked to breast cancer and uterine cancer in women, decreased testosterone levels in men, and are particularly devastating to babies and young children. BPA has even been linked to insulin resistance and Type 2 Diabetes. Not sure what effect it would have on your animals or corals.50/50 sounds fine but you could do more new water if you want to decrease Nitrate introduced to the aquarium.

They are all still alive this morning! But thank you for the sleepless night! Ha ha. I probably also have rats due to leaving the garage door open all night :)
