It seems that I have another dilemma on my hands. I have problems keeping shrimp. I have bought a few (4) peppermint shrimp and all but one has disappeared. I have also gone through 2 blood fire shrimp. I didn't have them at the same time. The second one died today after about 2 months. I saw him this morning and he had his antenna missing but seemed fine other wise. Tonight I saw his dead body laying on the sand. I had previously thought the my six line was the cause of all my shrimp deaths, but he has been out for a few months now. This new death causes me to wonder if he really had a hand in the demise of the other shimp.

Is there a ground probe in the tank?

May have been from a dramatic change in ph or salinity. Are you supplementing with iodine? Remember that shrimp molt(so, because you see an empty shell, doesn't mean it has died) May be a Mantis Shrimp. 6-line Wrasse, I don't think is the culprit!!!!!

Thank you two for your suggestions. Actually I don't have a grounding probe. Are they that important? Yes I do supp with iodine. I know that shrimp molt, but I can see the flesh inside the shell. As for the six line. I guess I had the meanest one ever. I used to see him picking at my peppermints legs and he used to attack my clown. So I just figured he maybe part of the problem. How do I check for a mantis. I haven't seen one anywhere in my tank. Thanks again you two. any one else feel free to chime in.

A ground probe is essential to negate/get rid of stray voltage released by powerheads etc. into your water.
That is very weird regarding your six-lined Wrasse as they are considered very reef safe and friendly BUT THERE ARE ALWAYS EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE!!!!!I once had a Niger Trigger in my reef tank but got rid of it just for piece of mind because they aren't supposed to be housed in a reef tank. There are many wonderful Wrasses that make exceptional and colorful additions to a reef tank.

I lost my cleaner, fire, and 3 camel shrimp about a year ago, it took me forever to figure out why. But late one night I walked passed my tank to see one of my camel shrimp in my B. cardinals mouth being devoured. What a loss :-/

I had a pajama cardinal that ate all of my shrimp too. Saw the tail of one of my skunk cleaners sticking out of its mouth one day and the mystery of disappearing shrimp was solved.

you say NEAR 0...is that meaning the nitrates where near 0 and the rest were at 0? or does that mean there actually was amonia and nitrite?

and also, i'm thinkin i heard that nitrates arent toxic to fish, but they are to inverts...just a thought
