I am not sure cleaning out the skimmer is a good thing. Maybe it's just mine, but when I dialed it up too far, it cleaned out the tube. When it did that, it took days before it would skim right again. It had to deposit the junk back on it. I am not familiar with the morphology of the Octopus, but just something else to consider because you obviously don't have enough to think about tonight:p.

This is just a thought. I noticed you said you were trying to trap damsels. Do you mean with a net or an actual fish trap? The reason I ask is because I know of someone who used a fish trap and very soon after his water params went nuts and he had a mass die out in his tank. We thought maybe there was a film or something on the trap.

Just a thought. If no trap was used then all I can recommend is clean the filters and hopefully that will do it. Good luck, I hope your fishies survive.

I have to agree. I have an AquaC Remora, and the only part I clean is the collection cup. When I dump it out, I rinse it real good and remove any buildup on/in it. Other than that, I leave it alone. Previously, I had a Seacrap (Seaclone) that I only cleaned the collection cup each time I dumped it out. In the almost 7 years I had it, I only cleaned the actual skimmer once (not counting the collection cup). I never had algae (or slime) build up in it, so I never felt the need to clean the "internals".

I used both. Its an interesting idea, stemming back to Blue's comment that maybe some sort of cleaning agent/chemical made its way into the tank. I guess it would be possible. I gave it a good rinse before, but who knows. I dont think I will have a huge die off. The tang may not make it, but everyone else is seems happy as a lark. Maybe kinda PO'd they didnt get fed tonight, but otherwise happy/healthy.

My skimmer's insides were pretty mucked up with stuff. The only adjustment mine has is CC height. It is already working normally, so I know it at least didnt hurt to do it, regardless if it actually helps or not

Well, the tang made it through the night, though it didnt look much better. My zoa's and polyps looked really droopy. They didnt even do that back when the anemone died. I am really strongly starting to lean towards some type of chemical or something that my have made its way into the tank. I dont know what or how.

how deep is your sandbed? maybe something just got stirred up that was sitting in a spot you cant see and caused it, stupid deadspots

either way, glad everything made it through, if all your stuff survived the anemone death their probably close to bulletproof now

My sandbed is about 3 inches deep. I know stirring can cause a mini-cycle, I have done that one myself while aquascaping, but it shouldnt be like this. I havent stirred it up lately. The blennie plays in it, but not anything drastic. Not this bad.
