The pump on my skimmer recently died so I've been trying to decide on a new one and I'm fairly certain I want to try a Vertex IN series skimmer. I estimate that I have roughly 120-130 gallons of total water volume which means I should get the Vertex IN 180 since it fall into that range for size rating.

There is a seller however that has the Vertex IN 250 on sale for cheaper than the 180 but it's rated for a minimum of 150 gallons. So what do you think? Stick with the skimmer that fits my water volume? Or is the difference small enough where it won't really matter much?

go with the Vertex IN 250 its always better run a larger skimmer then you need for your set up in my opinion .

Go for the IN250, you never know if your going to up-grade in the future. My skimmer is rated for 200g and my system is only 145g.

    Yup i agree,,

I was on the same boat and im gonna use a 100gallon on My 60gallon..

Just gives me about 40% more than what id need.. I figure when i swap the stuff from the 50 to the 60 im gonna add some more fish and my corals are gonna grow bigger too..

Thus it will have me covered..

On a big tank ,,think Big and oustide the glass box for future plans on the same tank;)

yes and no, matching the skimmer to water volume is a guide, under skimming is bad, over skimming is bad. efficiency is more important a beckett injector and needle/mesh recirc are your best options.
