As I'm getting closer and closer to filling my new setup with water, I've been kinda looking around for different things I want to run in my sump. I've listed a couple options that I have no experience with and was curious to hear your guys' thoughts on them.

The first thing I have a question about is the Marine Pure Ceramic biomedia. Has anyone here ran this? And do you guys think it does a good job at housing bacteria? Since I'm cramped for room in my sump, this looked like a good way to add extra real estate for bacteria.

The second thing I have a question about is Purigen. I have never ran this before, and do not know anyone personally who has. But after reading a little about it, it seems like its a pretty cool idea. I was hoping you guys could give me some more info on it.

    Thanks in advance :)

I've had great results with Purigen - highly recommend it.

Most folks recommend keeping sufficient levels of live rock (1-2 lbs per gallon) for biological filtration but it should work as long as you keep it clean of detritus.

No need for biological filtration except your rocks.

Purigen is a very good product and does its job well.

The reason I was looking to add biological to the sump, is because my rockwork is minimal IMO. I didnt weigh it, it's DIY rock that is SUPER porous, so maybe I don't actually need any additional bio filtration.

The purigen looked like a nice product, just wasnt sure how many people here are using it. Thanks for the replies.

If your rock takes up about 25% to 33% of the tank volume then you have plenty of rock.
