What kind of angel specifically are you referring too?Lumping them all together and assuming there lifespans are the same is a mistake imo.I have personally witnessed a Flame angel that was kept for 11 years.A coral beauty that lived for 10.Pygmy dwarf angels (C. Argi)are generally assumed to live around 5 years but most of the information is coming from hobbyist and not scientific research. If someone has a study to link that would be great.

I do not have scientific research articles to insert and am making a very broad statement grouping all the dwarf angels together just as you made a broad statement yourself stating they should not be sold with no specific species mentioned. I respect your opinion and think of you as a valued contributor to these forums and the hobby, was just disagreeing with your statement which is one I have seen posted on many forums by many different people. I am kind of confused since your last statement offered lifespans of different angels kept 10+ years that you know of yet your first statement is telling other people to not try and keep them at all since they most likely wont survive.

I will have to try and dig up the articles I read before so I can post links. Been a few years since I researched the dwarf angels.

Have kept single Ebli's in a 135 first one for around 3 years until had to move and have had second one for over a year. No issues with coral. Have found that they like various algae's and are constantly nipping at them including stuff that I provide. Once added a Lemonpeel which did fine but did nip at sps from time to time.

What all types of sponges are you growing? I never see sponges in LFS, where do you normally get them?

I lumped them together only saying there are many unknowns not giving specifics as to lifespan.I stand by my statement and propher that if we don't even know what they need how can we hope to keep them alive??In both cases these fish were housed in a 1000 gallon tank which I should have specified. These long term success stories are unfortunately very few and far between ime. Also as Cheryl mentioned we know they pick at certain corals.Rarely do animals do things for no reason.Perhaps the slime produced helps them ward off internal parasites, or aids in digestion. There are just too many unanswered questions for me to recommend them.JM2C

On occasion we get in yellow ball sponges in actual orders. Most of it is just encrusting sponges of all different colors, not entirely sure of the names, common or scientific. Currently i have: black, pink, orange, and a rusty colored type for encrusting, a piece of yellow ball sponge, some blue type and this white branching sponge. And of course pineapple sponges, but i doubt the angel will be interested in those. Most of these are just hitch hikers off LR or coral colonies, some i got from other hobbyists. (Im that one hobbyist that asks for sponges and macro algae instead of corals lol)

I also have a piece of aussie spider sponge, not sure if it will like that, or if I'll even offer it lol.

I understand that the angel may not be interested at all, but i figured i try everything i could.

Angelixr is a food soak that contains sponge. I believe it's made by bright well. Might be something worth checking out. I have some photosynthetic red sponge that my emporer angel loves.
