I hope everyone gets through the storm OK. Both families and fish. As for me..........it is 77 degrees right now. just started to cool down from a high of 80. Sorry but i just had to add that. Good luck everyone.

I live in New England and I had a long power outage from the last large storm where my power was out for about 8 hours:-X. Scared me since I had no back up power, but thankfully my water heater is gas and was still on so I could continually make hot water and float zip lock bags in there and used some turkey basters to get water movement. But seriously that is a scary notion not knowing when the power will get back on. I put a blanket over my tank and kept the lid close too and that help maintain the heat (was losing about a degree every few hours still tho). Thankfully nothing happened and now I have a gas powered generator ;D just in case. I think the battery back up systems are pretty much a joke since they usually only last for an hour or 2 tops and usually the 0-3 hour window is not when you're worried, it's the longer power outages that tend to create the serious problems.

A really quick solution is to buy an inverter for your car to run a plug from there while its on ( I know still inconvenient, but better than losing fish). Also you could consider buying a car battery kit which allows you to hook a car battery up to a system which then converts it to the standard voltage. Having 2 spare car batteries could last you a decent while(maybe 5 hours?) depending on the tank and what you run (I'd only do heater and flow).

Btw: I have 41 inches of snow standing in my back yard from all the storms in the past month. Anyone have more than that haha.

If you are in right smack dab in the middle of this giant storm then I am here with you. it has been snowing for almost 24 hours non-stop. 21-28 inches expected here. Its snowing so hard I cant see my truck in the driveway.
