My friend wants to start a 40gallon breeder with a fu man chu lion, maroon clown and sargassum fish. He is planning on 20 PLDS of lr and maybe some mushroom corals. Would this be ok if he had a powerful filter and skimmer (I know these fish produce a LOT of waste)?

I would say yes to all the fish but the sarrgasum. They have a bigger appetite then their stomach and the maroon might be swallowed by him (killing both of them)

He would have to do frequent water changes and keep up with the maintanacne but I think it is feasable

The angler would actually eat the lion and clown as well...if you absolutely had to have 2 I'd say do the lion and clown....best chances of survival and make sure to keep the lion full or he might look at the clown as desert. Or you could put a divider in the tank that'd be a better idea

i think a full grown maroon could hold its own against a 6-7" lionfish....or atleast the maroons at my LFS ;D

yeah i agree 100 percent. maroon clowns once full grown get quite big and agressive, just get a big one and itll be fine

again I would not put the frog fish in with the clown regardless of how big it gets. Frogs will actually kill themself overeating. I have had a couple frogs and they will eat whatever they can get their mouth around...and their mouths are big. I once read an article where a guy put a frog in with a bamboo shark. He was worried about the frog, but when he saw the tank the next day the bamboo was gone and the frog had a tail hanging out of his mouth. The frog died a few days later (overate) and the guy did an autopsy and found the whole shark in the frogs stomach (the shark was 3 to 4 times the size of the frog!)
