Well my eshopps psk 150 seems to be not working properly, or so i think. The skimmer is rated for 100 heavy-150 light bio load. Im running it on my 75 gallon system with a 25 gallon sump. Thing is my bio load is almost non existent with a yellow goby and clown as my only fish, no coral, and a cuc,

My question is, is there just not much to skim, or is my skimmer at fault. I have the bubbles about where the cup and body of the skimmer meet.

I just cant seem to get much skim in the cup. I get a thick coat of brown gunk on the skimmer neck, but nothin in the collection cup. It sittin at about 10" in the water, should get some pvc and raise her up? or should i just chill the hell out lol.

Its skimming some, for sure, but not as well as i would hope, then again i dont think my water has the crao in it to skim out. The skim in the cup was cuz i set the bubbles at about 1/2 way up the skimmer cuo,

With no real bioload i would think your skimmer is doing fine. I have a vertex in80 on my 27 gallon and it rarely pulls much more that what you have described.

Thats what im thinking too, but with this being my first real big skimmer, (i had an aquaticlife115 for my 20, hardly a skimmer compared to this beast.) I wasnt sure if it was acting right.

    Thanks.

Adjust the water/bubbles in the body closer to the top. See what kind of skim you get like that.

You have to monitor it if you cup empties to a drain, and you have an ATO.
If you're making ALOT of thin skimmate, gallons could go into the waste instead of back into you tank. This makes your ATO dump too much water into the tank too quick dropping your SG too much- bad scene.

I've seen posts about the skimmate cup running over, as in back into the sump/DT and killing things. Killing things?- that's where it came from in the first place! I dunno 'bout that.

I'm basically running into the same problem with my CPR skimmer. I think the maturity of the tank + the low bioload just means that there isn't much to skim. I'm getting lots of residue/gunk in the tube (neck) leading to the cup, but not a lot of liquid in the cup itself. Just chalk it up to a mature tank... assuming that your tank is actually mature, and that you don't have a lot of nuisance algae.

I also have a light load. 3 fish, 5 cone snails and 3 crabs all in a 56 column. My CPR BakPak does the same thing. Gunk in the neck and a small amount in cup itself.

My tanks only about 7 weeks old. I think its just nothing in the tank to skim. Im working on getting more so my skimmer can get to work. lol

I guess its just not enough to be pushed into a liquid in the cup so it just gathers at the neck. At least its something i can fix, in time.

Im sure the addition to my refugium and more fish will give it a little more to work with.
