Skimmer newbie

Hello,
I have a life reef protein skimmer Can somebody tell me how to hook it up is the bottom pipe with the valve on it is it the intake or out what about that clear pipe that is hook under the upper cup where does that go. I bought it used and can not find instruction on it. Thanks guys

the tube with the tap on is the outlet - that looks like a brass tap painted red to me?
I would swap that out for a plastic tap even though it is in a location that should not make contact with water

the other large pipe is the inlet - water pumps in through there and then you adjust the tap to control outlet and thus set water level in skimmer

the top airline basically helps introduce air into the skimmer and you can regulate this normally to adjust amount of air to water ratio

the other line at the back maybe a line to take the skimmate out of cup to a larger container ( not sure but it looks like it might be)

thats what I think anyway
hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong

are you saying that the skimmer should not go inside the sump. That red thing is plastic. And if it goes in the sump how high the water level should be on the skimmer

 

if the red thing is plastic thats great - sorry my mistake

optimum water level varies between makes - but normally 6 -8 inches is what Im used to seeing
