So I came across a Prizm skimmer today at work that some guy wanted to buy. I pulled it outta the box and some pieces were broke on the part that cascades the water back into the tank. Needless to say he did not want it (DARN SHIPPERS HAVE BEEN SENDING US BROKEN JUNK LATELY). Anyhow, I have been on the market for a skimmer because I have been battling red slime and I have been wating for the right one. I asked my boss how much and he said forty bucks...knowing what I know about how it requires frequent adjustment, leaking, and so on regardless I figured I could not go wrong with getting a $130 skimmer for forty buck plus the cost of some super glue to re-piece the cascade back together....

So here is the question...contrary to popular belief this is not just a hang on back skimmer. After reading the manual the pump is submersable so I want to run it in my sump to take away any chance of overflowing or leaking (read some of the nasty reviews). Do I have to run it in the first stage of my sump? My sump is only two stage the first being packed with media and bio balls so I can only run it on the return side(seep pic)...will this still get gunk out or not work at all?

Thanks Everyone for taking he time to read my short story ;D -Fred

I see no reason it wouldn't work the way you have it diagramed, my first wet/dry filter back in the 90's had a built in skimmer at the same point. It wasnt all that effective but that was due more to the skimmers design than where it was in the sump.

I think that would work fine. The first section will remove most of the large particles so that could make the skimmer operate better.
