Okay, so. My 90 gallon tank is super annoying me as of late. My skimmer didn't work right for months and the tank got lots of GHA, and then I got sick and haven't been able to do great husbandry on it. So it's dirty, gross, and I hate it. Plus, coral have fallen all over, and it's time to start gluing things down.

Here's my idea - tell me if it will work, or if I should just deal with the tank and try to fix it by keeping my hands out of it.

I'm thinking of buying some frag racks to put all my coral on. Then taking all my live rock out and putting it into a bucket with heated, fresh saltwater. Then re doing the rock - I want to move it back so there is more swimming space for the fish in the front, more room on the sand bed for coral and clams, and also make more space on the rock for coral.

Then I will find the perfect spots for all the coral and epoxy them down. Then do a big water change, because I probably stirred up a ton of crap, literally, and then be done with it!

    What do you think??

Also, is there an epoxy that works really well? And how do I get coral off of their frag plugs? I hate them!

Thanks for reading my rant! :)

Oh also, forgot to mention. I want to scrub the rocks down with a brush of some sort to get the GHA off.

A dremel or boxcutter blade will work just fine for popping off the corals fromt he plugs, however some may have encrusted over your corals, so Might not be the easiest way to go about it, you could always use a bone sheer and cut the plug down in that case.

I have had great luck with my JB Waterweld epoxy from HD. It would work for you, your idea, but its gonna take a full day of work. So be prepared to start early LOL.

I think you have a plan. If you take your rocks out carefully and rinse a bit with saltwater you won't stir to much.

    Good luck :)

Okay, I will pick up some of that epoxy stat. I want to get this started! Every time I look at my tank I get p'od, instead of happy, like I should. I'm sure it will take a looong time! I'll make sure Brian and I have had our Wheaties!

Thanks! I am getting pretty excited to do this.

Oh another question. I've noticed some giant aiptasia. I know pulling them out in the water is a bad idea. If I have the rock out of water, can I attack the aiptasia like that?? Then they can't send their spores off into the water...

Sounds like a great plan, you'll be amazed how much crap comes off of your rocks when you rinse them. Which in turn could help greatly with your algae problem.

I second what gambit said about a box cutter blade. So long as the coral hasn't encrusted over the plug you should be able to pop it off and then epoxy the coral to the rock.

If you do it take your time and plan on it being a day event! ;D

If your going to be removing the rock from the water I would hit the little monsters with a butane torch! Works like a charm!
