The other day I bought 2 peppermint and 2 scarlet skunks. My 2 peppermints came out the first night but no evidence of them since. One of my scarlets had a molt the first night and was dead last night. So now I just have the 1 scarlet which won't leave the overflow. Any ideas what could have killed them? My livestock is 1 powder blue tang 2 O. clowns 4 blue/green chromis 1 foxface lo 1 pink spot watchman 1 bluelegged hermit and a few snails. TIA

how long did u acclimate? Shrimp are VEEEEERY sensitive to small changes...especially acclimation..in the case of shrimp...they really need to be acclimated over a 3-4hr period....a slow drip acclimation (a drip every other second)...then about a drip every second after the first hour to hour and a half.....i cannot stress how important the acclimation process is for shrimp....this was most likely what happened...

Not 100% sure on this, but I believe that I have heard of Watchman Gobies killing shrimp.

Were the 2 skunks mated? The one possibly killed the other. They can get very territorial toward each other. As for the peppermint, they are gonna be shy for a while. Some animals are like that. I bought a $30 fire shrimp, and he found a nice hole to call home and I never see him. I should'a bought 2 PJ's and called it a day. lol I've been told that shrimps are very delicate when acclimating, but I haven't noticed. I just floated mine and sunk 'em, but then again I keep my tank very close to salinity with my LFS. Since I learned about dripping, though, I do this every time. I guess I just got lucky when I got my CUC and then with my skunk as well.

Can't say I acclimated them 3 or 4 hours just about 2 and a half. I did slow drip but I guess it could be the cause. Never had a problem in the past but ill make sure I go to the 3 or 4 hour mark next time. About an hour after my lights went out last night the scarlet came out of the cave and was just hanging out seemed to be fine. About 3 oclock this morning I noticed him being eaten by my blueleg and snails.

Yeh....it sounds like an acclimation issue....and just like any animal in or out of the ocean...some acclimate to different environments better than others...even of the same species.

Good to know thanks for the info. Hopefully the one I have left will be ok. I think he will because he seems to like the foxface and the overflow constantly cleaning or trying to clean the ff.

I see no remains of the peppermints so I still have hope. Kinda thinking my skunk might have been killed because his shell hadn't hardened yet being he had just molted. not sure though.
