I beg to differ with you....it is not metalic or magnetic; it is a form of argonite: CaribSea Arag-Alive | Special Grade Reef Sand | Indo Pacific Black | Fiji Pink | Bahamas Oolite | West Caribbean Reef | Florida Crushed Coral | Bimini Pink

As in any "sand" or "substrate" you can get it between your magnet and the glass and scratch it.

There are lots of different kinds of black sands, mine was volcanic in origin. If you got near mine with a magnet, it went straight to it.

uh oh, I've heard volcanic substrates can contain a lot more than what is advertised, really if it came from deep within the earth who knows what other minerals are in it.

i think black sand looks fantastic, like chelsea said it makes everything pop.

i have it in my FW and i'll never use any other color again, makes the plants look great and its more calming than the white sand imo

not sure with SW but i bet it would suck getting dinoflagellates all over your black sand, it looks terrible on white - i bet it looks worse on black, but if you have good flow and a good clean up crew, your sand bed should stay pretty detritus free -- right?

it depends the kind you buy, some of the cheaper stuff i think is just coated sand. also sometimes the cheaper option like suchigirl said is magnetic. its hard to get your hands on some premium black live sand.
