sorry for the urgency, need to know if I should put this back right this instant or not.

    story:

i am a dweeb. long story short, I ended up removing some LR rubble on Saturday evening. It is in a cool dark place, but it has not been in water.

It is still damp. Totally forgot about it.

I feel my system can take a mild swing from reintroducing those rocks, but worried it might be more dramatic. About two cups worth of rubble, golf ball sized pieces.

If the thinking is there would probably be enough die-off for a giant release of ammonia - I will just discard them. If it's mild, I'll go ahead and keep them.

    They do not smell rotten.

Should I put them back right now or nuke 'em/throw 'em out?

I would put them in a bucket of saltwater with a powerhead and puck then back in the system one or two at a time and test water frequently for ammonia/nitrite spikes.

a friend of mine gave me a big bag of rubble and said it was dead live rock. I added it into my sump 3-6 pieces per night over a month and had no ammonia spikes at all.

so i'm not sure if this is going to be dead already... not saying it would be 100% alive... but if it's only had like 30% die-off... then no problem, I'll just put it back

Looking for opinions on how dead this might be in the time frame of sat evening - right now, monday evening.

kept in a cool dark spot, has retained at least some internal moisture. They are not dried out... but definitely not in water either. My tank can absorb some spike, but not an excessive amount. Just don't know how much of a spike I might get w/2 cups of rubble in this scenario...

I'm putting my skimmer back together now, so I want to know if I should put this back right now. otherwise, it's just going into the trash.

As an FYI, this is the LR rubble that i keep in my skimmer.

Never heard of keeping rubble in the skimmer, but if there's anything leeching off it and its INSIDE your skimmer I would think the majority of it would be sent right to the cup. Might want to skim wetter than normal for a few days just to be sure.
