For a 65g, I think you would only need one. However, firstly, you need to determine what temp your water reads at room temperature to then determine the size and voltage heater you would need.

I would get 2 100-150w heaters. Should one fail you'll still have plenty to warm the tank, but you'd probably notice then 1-2 degree drop. Check them when you change water and it should be fine. They will also last much longer as they'll work together to distribute their load, meaning they're each on less time.

I say this with experience; I have had heaters fail. Redundancy is vital with heaters and is a very minimal investment.

+1 for having two heaters, if one is to fail you have a back up and it always seems to fail when you are nowhere around. Fairly cheap piece of mind IMO.

2 heaters save lives.....1 heater goes, the other is there to save the day. Especially if it is in the winter time...
Just to be safe use 2.
I have a 42g and I have 1 in my sump and 1 in my DT.

The room water temp here with the lights on is 89F.Trinidad is so hot. I wish here was cold so I could get heaters instead of an expensive chiller. I've never had need to use a heater so no experience with em but I do know like others said keep a back up. Also it's better to get the most reputable brand and type or so I've read.
