I have a 29 gall display tank with an Aquatic Life T5 fixture. I want to add some leds for a shimmer effect. What kind should I get? I have no experience with LEDS on a tank.

If it's just supplemental light for the shimmer effect only then any LED will provide that. I have a strip on 9 1watts on my dwarf tank and there's a good shimmer effect.

+1 to Reefmonkey you do not need much to get that effect.

    Good luck!

Look into Ecoxotic "Stunner Strips" (cheaper) or their "Modules".

I have to disagree. I read that most led shimmers are washed out because the t-5s are bright. I have 3 pretty powerful leds for my night lights and I cant see them at all with the t-5s on. Search the threads I believe I read it on here, or possibly another fish forum. But I think you need high end LEDS like crees to show through with t5s

My wife took our camera with her to Disneyland and my cell phone would not take a picture that you could see the difference. I added an R2 moonlight (made up of 5 blue LED's) and placed in the center (along the back of enclosure). Total install 5 minutes. When I turn on with T5's it is not as much shimmer as with my Biocube LED's but you can see it and it does make a difference. I am sure with a large set (I believe someone recommended a stunner) it would be more visible. Please note the is on a 20 Gallon L with 30" Aquatic Life T5HO, I can not guarantee it on a larger tank.

Good luck, the smallers kits are pretty cheap and will likely give you that effect if you want it.
