So, I bought a used kalk reactor, the KR620 in fact...

Anyone with experience on setting one up? I've read the directions, so in all vagueness, it says to use a doser or gravity to administer. I already have a ATO that works well. I don't want to rely on the evaporation rate of my tank controlling the kalk intake. So, am I to buy a regular dosing pump? I have a BRS 1.1 ml a minute dosing pump, but I feel like that's going to be too slow... not sure.

What I'm going to be doing is a water change tonight. I'm going to measure the CA/Alk tonight after the water change and then check it in 2 days, then 2 days more and then at a week. That should give me an idea of my usage. Then I can see if the dosing pump I have is enough?

Am I on the right track?

    Thanks!
    Matt

I agree about the issue with using kalk / evap combo. That pump may work depending on the size of your tank. I think you definitely are on the right track by noting your intake rates as described. I did that with my bubble magus doser - that was the way to calibrate. In my personal experience, kalk has always been a supplement - I don't think I was doing enough water changes to have it cover the intake of calcium and alk with just dosing kalk. That said, I think you are starting out right.

    Awesome, thanks!

I did my water change, but then it got to be too late to test. So I am going to baseline tonight and go from there.
