Hey guys... last night I took the 'red light challange' to my tank and found a few brisstleworms and an extra 2 feather dusters,

but on 2 separate pieces of live rock, long worm things emerged, in segmented sections (like a lightsaber toy folding up). both extended a good range (1.5-2 inches out of rock base) and just 'poked and prodded' everything. one was even moving pieces of rubble at the base of its liverock (maybe not moving so much as looking under?).

I did not see either extend any thing from the 'tip' of its prodding self...

Also, when they retracted, they went back into a hole in the rock exactly the size of them, leading me to believe that it 'eats' through the rock as well possibly...

I could not get a pic, as these things disappeared back into the live rock as soon as any light higher in the spectrum was introduced.

    Any Idea?

Try googling oenone fulgida worms (although I can say I have never seen one move rock, but they are quite light sensitive) and eunice worms. Certain eunice worms get big enough to eat fish so I have no doubt they can move rock to look for food if they get hungry enough

Nah, sorry, I should have also mentioned this thing was tube shaped... and looked like it never exited fully from the rock... as if only extending a 'red shirt landing party' to look for food or whatever around its hole...

No legs visible on any of the parts that were visible (again, up to 2 inches at one point).

No nothing extended from the 'tube' that extended from the rock, no bristles, no legs. It looked like a smooth tube, but segmented for retraction... sorry for the comparison but like a light-saber toy folding up...

By the sound of it, it might just be two separate peanut worms. Seems to fit the 'criteria'... interesting to note the extended appendage will be all I ever see of these guys...

Interesting to me. I love the different evolutionary paths taken by the plethora of creatures in the tank and live rock.

Sounds just like every Peanut worm I've ever seen in my tanks.
