I found a sealine sl150a on Craigslist but I'm not familiar with chillers. Are they any good and will it work on a 115g tank? They want $175 for it. I looked online and nib is $400. what do you all think?

Maybe not. I'm gonna raise my lights a little higher and maybe put a couple more fans across it. Right now room temp is 73 and my tank temp is 81 with halides off. So was just thinkin that it may be the easiest route but I don't wanna pay a heavy price for a chiller or electricity either. So that's good info. Now just gotta figure out how to control the temp. Hopefully more fans will work. Thanks

NP.81 with the lights off says to me you may have another problem. If you are running any submersible pumps some run hotter then others. Also if you are running A U.V. filter make sure you have it flowing fast enough so it doesn't heat up your water.Your plan of raising the lights and adding fans is a good one. If your room temperature is that low you should have no problem lowering the tank temp. with that approach.;)

I do run an aquauv but only at night. My pumps may be the problem. I might have to check my temp probe just in case but my heater never kicks on and its set at 78. So my temp probe is probably close to right. We'll see what happens whit the new fans and hopefully things will work out. Thanks for all the info.

I agree with Vinny that something is adding too much heat to the tank, esp. when I see in your sig that you have T-5's. Can you get your hands on an infra-red thermometer? If you can shoot your pumps and see if they are running hot. Even feel them with your hand and see if they are hot to the touch. Excess heat can be a sign of failure as well.

I gotta update my sig. I recently went to mh. I can use an infared from work and check it out. I would guess if anything it would be my return pump as its a cap5000. Need a better one but its doing its job for right now. I have felt of all my pumps but they do not feel hot but my cap5000 is louder than it used to be. My mh have been only running for about an hour a day because of the heat. My fans should be in this weekend. I have suspension hardware that will be here tomorrow so I can raise my lights up higher right now they set about 8" of the water. So my actinics are what is running.

The mh raise my temp up but even before they come on my water temp is high so I only run them for an hour to keep it from increasing more. I never had a problem before it usually stayed around 78 to 79. Which is where my heater is set. So you are probably right about heat from the pumps.
