Currently using Red Sea coral pro. But when this bucket runs out, which will be in the next water change or two, I have a large box of the HW reefer salt. I wanted to try something new. While some might say if it ain't broke don't fix it, I got tired of having to use the coral pro within 4 or so hours of mixing. I don't remember the exact time restraint on the package but I couldn't let it mix overnight.

Now that I think about it I never actually tested mixing it overnight or longer than what the package warns against. I probably should of done that before ordering the HW haha. But anyways, time will tell if my choice is a wise or foolish one.

I've been experimenting every time I run out of a box of salt with something new. Only difference between salts that I've noticed is the way they mix and the amount required to mix to 1.026. I have sps in my tank that are thriving with all salts. Since I dose, my parameters are adjusted to my likings either way. As of yet, I haven't experienced any bad batches thankfully. To me it looks like it will be coming down to price. And for that IO reef crystals is one of the cheapest you can buy.

Its all about batch testing and pumping out an identical product EVERY time. Not many companies batch test like Instant Ocean. Also many other brands of salt are purchased from IO.It is then remade and/or rebranded.:)
    There I said it.:p
I have visited the facility and it is top notch.
I have dabbled in naturally harvested salts like RSCP with almost disastrous results.
I have been using IO for a long time with excellent results growing anything.
I am not bashing other brands by any means and actually liked the RSCP until I got a bad batch with ultra low calcium.Automated tanks really can help fill in the gaps of a deficient salt but for nano tanks or tanks with less automation(mine)it is very important if you a relying on wc's for chemistry that you want a good steady brand of salt. For the money and piece of mind IMO there is none better.JM2C

I have been using Omega Sea marine salt, I like it, it clears quick after mixing.

I will add that I've switched between IO and NSW numerous times and saw no difference in my tank or livestock. I've only tried one other brand a few years ago. Can't recall the name now, but one thing I do remember well is that the "0 Nitrates, 0 Phosphates" claim on the label was more than a bit inaccurate.:eek:
