Anyone have experience with sea horses and banded pipe fish? I'm thinking about starting a 30 gallon tank with these two. I'd rather not go the live food route because I don't have a means of keeping live food alive and don't want to go to LFS every other day.

I'm new to the hobby with my 90 gallon tank and have been successful so far with various fish, corals, crustaceons (almost a year).

the only valuable advice I can really give you, is buy tank raised horses. If you find a shop that is an ORA dealer, they can get you very nice tank raised reidi's and kuda's

How new? Seahorses are on a different level. I am setting up my horse tank tomorrow after a year of keeping a reef and researching the entire way. I believe a 30 gallon is too small for a pipefish of just about any kind. The most reputable breeder that I have been recommended and that I will use is seahorsesource.com. It may not sound very enticing to buy online but there are a couple reasons not to buy from a fish store. One and the most important is that usually LFS put all their 'horses in the same tank. This means that they will likely be in a tank with other specimens from different sources including the ocean. Who knows what bacteria, fungi, etc. are coming in off of that and could be passed to your horse. Others include things such as double acclimation which is just a stress factor and a few other small reasons. Anyway research research research and post questions.

THANKS - I'm in the "research" phase now. I've had my 90 gallon since last October and have been pretty successful so far . . .
