I can't see how he can be right when he doesn't even know what the screw is made out of! That's terribly irresponsible advice! If the screw is made of stainless steel, it shouldn't affect your tank at all. If it's got any copper or zinc in it, it poses a huge danger to your tank.

A simple test is to take a magnet and see if it picks up the screw. If it does, the screw is most likely steel and you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If the magnet doesn't pick it up, test your tank water for copper. I don't think there are aquarium test kits for other metals but hopefully, you won't have to worry about that.

I thought I was the only one. When I was setting up my tank and rinsing the crushed coral I found a piece of electrical wire about one inch long which kind of bummed me out initially. But things turned out OK.

Let your water go through the filtration period and run the normal tests prior to putting any livestock in just to be on the safe side.

    You should be fine. :)

    Good luck.
